-Copper is prone to tarnishing readily. While in some cases it can develop a desirable patina with time and use, to preserve its original luster, regular care and maintenance are required.
-Copper reacts more readily with acidic substances such as tomato or lemon juice. Prolonged contact of unlined copper vessels and utensils with high acidity foods in storage is not recommended, as the copper can actually leach into the food over time and cause gastrointestinal distress in the consumer
-Keep copper utensils clean and dry promptly after use
-Apply a light coating of mineral or food safe oil prior to prolonged storage to prevent tarnishing
-If surface tarnish develops, copper can be cleaned with an acidic and abrasive cleaner, such as a combination of vinegar and salt and a clean cloth. Ensure all traces of this mixture are rinsed away and the utensil is properly dried and oiled prior to storage.
