-Wood contains thousands of tiny fibers like drinking straws that are capable of sucking up moisture very readily. When properly seasoned or formally stabilized this is mitigated to a large extent, but wood movement from changes in humidity can cause warping, cracking, and splitting unless fully stabilized and sealed.
-Avoid leaving wooden items in standing water for a prolonged period.
-Avoid leaving wooden items in direct sunlight or high humidity
-Wooden bowls, cookware, utensils, and tool handles should be kept clean and free of visible soiling. They will benefit from the periodic application of oil such as linseed or food grade oil.
